Watch: Cheetah ‘attacks’ Sandler
Adam Sandler had a closer-than-expected encounter with a cheetah while in South Africa.
Sandler – who was filming new romantic comedy Blended with Drew Barrymore around Sun City at the time – revealed that he was allowed into a cheetah’s enclosure and invited to offer the animal a drink when the cheetah jumped on his back.
Sandler (46) told chat show host David Letterman: "This is a true story. I went there, and they let me in with a cheetah…and said I could feed the cheetah water with my hands. So I did it, and it went a little bit wrong."
After viewing the clip, Letterman remarked that Sandler was "remarkably composed", to which the comedian replied: "I played it off real good.
"They said you’re not supposed to bend down low with the water. I was very nervous…it was fast.
"When he jumped on me, all I was going to do was let him eat me.
"There was not one part of me that was going to fight back. I was like ‘All right, this is how I’m dying’."
However, Sandler also remarked that the animal’s handler had everything under control, calling the animal her "best friend" and joking that "She sleeps with that cheetah in the bed."
