Skydance Empire Formed as Paramount Takes Warner Bros

Following months of intense legal battles and a fierce bidding war against Netflix, Paramount has completed its massive acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery.

The resulting media giant operates under the rebranded banner Skydance Corporation. Chief executive David Ellison leads overall strategy alongside newly appointed co-chief executive Ynon Kreiz.

This landmark consolidation reduces Hollywood’s major film studios from five to four, bringing prominent entertainment franchises, television networks, and platforms like HBO Max and Paramount+ under uniform ownership. Leadership expects to secure $6 billion in cost savings through combined cloud and streaming infrastructure.

However, the transaction faces significant pushback. Industry professionals have raised concerns regarding inevitable redundancies, diminished competition, and potential threats to newsroom impartiality.

In response to state lawsuits, Skydance agreed to form a news editorial independence board. Additionally, the business accepted strict production quotas, committing to release at least 30 films annually for the next two years.

Welcoming the final agreement, David Ellison stated: “From the start, our ambition was to bring these two storied studios together and create a stronger competitor, with the talent, resources, and reach to tell great stories in every genre, on every platform, for audiences everywhere. Now that ambition is a reality.”
