‘Twilight’ breaks SA records
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 has shattered South African box office records.
According to a press release issued by Ster-Kinekor, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 opened at R10.9-million for its opening three days, starting Thursday 15 November, making it the biggest three-day opening of all time by 36%.
According to Ster-Kinekor, in its first three days at local cinemas, the fifth and final film in The Twilight Saga was seen by more than 275 000 movie-goers.
The film also broke records for the biggest box-office pull at cinemas for Friday and Saturday.
By comparison, Breaking Dawn – Part 1 earned R11-million over a five-day period when it was released last year, Ster-Kinekor says.
The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 is directed by Bill Condon from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg based on the novel Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner star.
