Swift talks ‘abnormal’ life

October 29, 2012

Taylor Swift says she "doesn’t know" how to have a "normal relationship" and blames the pressures of living under the showbiz spotlight as one reason why she hasn’t been able to hold down a long-term boyfriend.

The 22-year-old singer – who has previously dated John Mayer, Joe Jonas, Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Lautner – insists she tries to be "normal" when she is going out with men but finds it tough because of the pressures of living under the showbiz spotlight.

In an interview filmed on 22 October, just days before news broke about her latest split from Conor Kennedy, she told talk show host Katie Couric: "I don’t know how to have a normal relationship because I try to act normal, love from a normal place and live a normal life. But there is sort of an abnormal magnifying glass, like telescope lenses, on everything that happens between me and anybody else."

Despite having been in a number of relationships in recent years and basing the lyrics to the majority of her hit songs on love, the I Knew You Were Trouble hitmaker insists she "doesn’t know" a lot about the subject.

She added: "I don’t really know that much about love, it turns out."

Swift and Kennedy’s split is believed to have been an amicable one, but the long distance between the 18-year-old Massachusetts-based hunk and the jet-setting blonde – who is currently promoting her fourth studio album, Red – is thought to have been a stumbling block in their relationship.

The We are Never Ever Getting Back Together hitmaker’s relationship revelations to the ABC correspondent come as somewhat of a rarity as she tends to shy away from speaking openly about her private life, preferring to get such feelings down in her song lyrics.
