Stone in talks for horror role

Emma Stone is in talks to star in Crimson Peak.

The Gangster Squad actress is in early negotiations to appear in Guillermo del Toro’s haunted house tale.

Information about the movie’s plot has not been fully disclosed, but it will be a set-orientated, classical but modern take on the ghost story.

The writer/director has said: "It will allow me to play with the conventions of the genre I know and love, and at the same time subvert the old rules."

He told Collider: "[Crimson Peak] is a Gothic romance, set at the turn of the century in the north of England, in a house at the top of a hill with a girl as the central character.

"Those are the classical elements, but how we go about it is very different. It’s going to be scary and at the same time, emotionally upsetting."

The filmmaker wrote the script with writing partner Matthew Robbins, and recently hired Lucinda Coxon, who penned The Crimson Petal and The White, to rework his draft.

Legendary Pictures – who financed del Toro’s Pacific Rim – are funding the movie.

Stone can currently be seen in Gangster Squad and will next voice one of the characters in DreamWorks’ animated adventure The Croods.

She will also start working on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opposite real-life boyfriend Andrew Garfield later this year.

The 24-year-old actress recently admitted she would love to write a film of her own.

She said: "I’d really love to [write my own material], particularly because there just aren’t enough roles for funny women out there.

"But I self-edit so badly that I’d have to get past the voice in my head first."
