‘Star Trek 3’ villains teased?

May 06, 2013

Damon Lindelof has hinted the Klingons will feature more prominently in the next Star Trek movie.

The writer-and-producer says the latest film in the space saga – which features the first appearance of the infamous alien race in the updated Star Trek franchise – teases what could evolve into a larger plot in the third movie.

Speaking at the world premiere of Star Trek Into Darkness in London’s Leicester Square on 3 May, he said: "You can never see enough Klingons. I feel like in this film we’ve given the audience a little taste, but there’s also a promise that there’s a larger conflict on the horizon. That would be fun to see."

Lindelof – who wrote the film’s script with Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, producer Bryan Burk and director JJ Abrams – also revealed that the team had already laid down plans for Into Darkness while filming 2009’s Star Trek and could also have some ideas already for the third flick.

He said: "The fundamentals – this is what the plot is going to be, this is who the bad guy is, this is what they’re up against – that came very, very early. Even while we working on the first movie, I think we had plans for the second one."

Quizzed whether they had already discussed the plot for Star Trek 3, he added: "I think that’s a reasonable conclusion. You should always know where you’ve been, you should know where you are, but most importantly – and I learned this from [working on] Lost – you should know where you’re going."
