Saoirse up for ‘Cinderella’
Saoirse Ronan is the frontrunner to play Cinderella in the Disney remake.
The Irish actress is reportedly a hot contender for the lead in the live action reboot of the Walt Disney fairytale favourite alongside Swedish star Alicia Vikander and British actress Gabriella Wilde.
The chosen girl will star opposite Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, who has already been cast as evil stepmother Lady Tremaine.
Director Mark Romanek will shortly be holding screen tests to find his perfect heroine, and is said to be taken by Ronan since she made a name for herself in 2007’s Atonement and blockbuster thriller Hanna.
Meanwhile, Vikander’s breakout performance came as Princess Kitty in Anna Karenina alongside Keira Knightley and Jude Law, earning her a place on Variety’s 10 Actors to Watch list.
Wilde has just finished filming the Carrie remake alongside Chloe Moretz and is best known for her role in The Three Muskateers. The striking blonde has a modelling background and has featured in Vogue and InStyle magazines.
Chris Weitz has penned the script based on Charles Perrault’s classic fairytale, while Simon Kinberg is producing.
It is not yet known whether the new film will stay faithful to the 1950 Disney classic, where orphaned Cinderella is made a slave in her own home to her wicked stepmother and ugly stepsisters Anastasia and Drizella until her fairy godmother grants her the power to attend a royal ball.
