SA teen wins Seacrest YouTube contest
South African teenager Filipa Carmo da Silva has won RyanSeacrest.com’s YouTube cover song competition for her rendition of One Direction’s hit Story of my Life.
After six weeks of competition and five competitive rounds, 18-year-old Carmo da Silva walked away with the crown with her Pearl Harbour-themed music video, which was directed by Kyle White.
She beat 26 other finalists, including UK X Factor twins Jedward, who placed second and US X Factor finalist Josh Levi, who came third in the competition.
Carmo da Silva told 94.7’s Breakfast Express team this morning: "I am at a loss for words, it’s unbelievable! I found out the news at around 3am. Thank you to everyone for supporting me."
The teen is currently working on her debut album, with her first single due out next month.
