‘Reese is mortified’
Reese Witherspoon is "trying to lay low" after her arrest last week.
The Walk the Line actress – who was charged with disorderly conduct after verbally confronting the police officer who had arrested her husband Jim Toth on suspicion of driving under the influence – is said to be "devastated" by the events and is hoping things will blow over soon.
A source told E! News: "She is trying to lay low and spend time with her family. It’s going to take her a long time to get over and she knows she let her family down."
An insider added to People: "She is happy to be home with her kids again. She didn’t feel good about being away from them after the news of her arrest broke.
"Her kids are everything to her."
The source also said that Witherspoon was "mortified" by the incident – and is determined to make sure that nothing like this will happen again.
"She’s a fun girl who likes to have a good time and let loose every now and then. What’s shocking is she didn’t rein it in enough to keep herself out of trouble.
"It was a really bad decision on both their parts and trust me, they’re evaluating that and they will make damn sure it doesn’t happen again," the source said.
Another source added to E! News: "She’s trying to move on, but she’s definitely nervous about the future."
The Mud star and her husband were pulled over by police in the early hours of Friday (19 April), Witherspoon reportedly became agitated when the officer questioned Toth (42) on suspicion of drunk driving.
According to a police report, she said: "Do you know my name? You are going to be on national news."
The actress later apologised for the incident, explaining that she had "one too many" drinks and was "deeply embarrassed" by her behaviour.
