Madonna sorry for racist language

Madonna has apologised for using a racial slur on her Instagram account.

The iconic singer insisted that she is "not a racist" and did not mean to cause offence when she posted a photograph of her 13-year-old son Rocco boxing with the caption: "No one messes with Dirty Soap! Mama said knock you out! #disni**a" on Friday (17 January).

After backlash from her fans, Madonna removed the original caption and wrote: "Ok let me start this again #get off my d**k haters!"

She later issued an official public apology to Us Weekly, saying: "I am sorry if I offended anyone with my use of the N word on Instagram. It was not meant as a racial slur.. I am not a racist."

She added: "There’s no way to defend the use of the word. It was all about intention.. It was used as a term of endearment toward my son who is white. I appreciate that it’s a provocative word and I apologise if it gave people the wrong impression. Forgive me."
