Lover thought she was infertile

Simon Cowell’s lover Lauren Silverman reportedly believed that she could not fall pregnant.

A source told the New York Post that the socialite – who has a seven-year-old son with her estranged husband Andrew Silverman – did not use protection during her romance with the music mogul because she had been told by doctors that she could not have any more children.

The source also revealed that while Lauren is thrilled with the pregnancy news, "The only fear is that because of her history of miscarriages, she might lose the child and end up with nothing."

Yesterday it was revealed that 53-year-old X-Factor boss Simon had taken legal and financial advice over the "messy" situation, and has promised to pay Lauren $4.5-million a year in child support until the child turns 21.

A source said  "He wants to ensure he does the right thing for her and their baby as well as resolving this mess.

"Simon wanted to know exactly where he stands and to minimise the damage this will do to his bank balance.

"He has a good relationship with Lauren at the moment but when you’re as wealthy as Simon, you can’t take any chances. Money changes people.

"Simon has warned he won’t be taken for a ride just because he’s rich.

"He’s more than prepared to be fair and generous but he’s no mug."

Simon was named in Andrew’s divorce filings, in which he cited "adultery" as the reason behind his decision to divorce, and it has since emerged that his laywers are working out an agreement to drop the adultery claims.

A source revealed: "[Andrew and Simon] were friends because of Lauren. He wants Andrew out of his life. Andrew’s acting out because he’s embarrassed. He named Simon in the divorce papers when there was no need to. Hopefully by next week Simon will be out of this."

It has previously emerged that Simon had "happily agreed" to cover his former friend’s legal costs if he drops an adultery claim in favour of a no contest divorce.

Meanwhile, Simon has jetted off on a month-long holiday on his yacht in St Tropez.
