Kurt Darren in ICU after crash

July 08, 2013

Kurt Darren is in a "stable" condition in ICU following a car crash in Pretoria early on Sunday morning.

According to Eyewitness News, the singer broke eight ribs and pierced a lung after the car he was travelling in with music agent Marnus Biscchoff and his assistant Nadia van Rensberg crashed into an eight-metre ditch.

According to Eyewitness News, Biscchoff was driving at the time of the accident, which occurred at Kameelfontein as Darren and his companions were on their way home from Saturday’s Bulls versus Sharks Super 15 clash.

Darren was airlifted from the scene to the Netcare Milpark Hospital at around 1.30am, where he remains "stable" although he is experiencing "extreme pain and discomfort", his management company said in a statement.

Darren’s brother Darren van Heerden told Eyewitness News that they were "very fortunate that his back is not broken".

Van Heerden also told Eyewitness News that they were only able to notify Darren’s wife Dunay about the accident late on Sunday afternoon, as she is currently travelling in Europe with her mother.

According to Eyewitness News, Biscchoff is currently being treated at a Pretoria hospital.
