Jay-Z raps track for six hours
Jay-Z performed his track Picasso Baby for almost six hours straight in New York yesterday (10.07.13).
The rapper performed the marathon feat at the city’s Pace Gallery, repeating the track from his new album Magna Carta … Holy Grail from around 1pm until approximately 6.45pm.
Jay wore a white shirt and gold chain with jeans and white sneakers and delivered the rap over and over from a white plinth in the gallery. Fans lined the art space but were kept behind a roped off area, although Jay performed the song directly to one person each time – including Picasso’s granddaughter, Diana Winmaier Picasso and performance artist Marina Abramovic.
In addition, a number of celebrities were in attendance, ushered in and out of the gallery for different takes, including Tyson Beckford, Wale, Rosie Perez and Judd Apatow.
The footage will be used for the Picasso Baby music video – directed by Mark Romanek, who previously worked on Jay’s video for 99 Problems.
When asked if he had been working on any visuals for the just-released Magna … Carta Holy Grail on Twitter earlier this week, Jay replied: "Yes, 6 pieces of art."
Jay is no stranger to repeating tracks, as during his Watch The Throne tour with Kanye West, the pair performed N****s In Paris over and over, culminating with them playing it 12 times in a row in the song’s namesake city.
At that show Kanye told the crowd: "Y’all have to remember this moment for the rest of your life. This will be the most times this song has been performed and the most times anybody ever performed a song at a concert, and y’all here tonight to be a part of it, Paris."
