Cowell ‘proud to be a dad’

Simon Cowell has opened up about his lover’s pregnancy for the first time.

In an interview with BBC at the world premiere of One Direction: This is Us, Cowell finally addressed the news that he and 36-year-old Lauren Silverman are expecting a baby together, and described her as a "very special girl".

The 53-year-old entertainment mogul told the BBC: "I’m proud to be a dad. It’s something I hadn’t thought of before, but now I know I feel good about it."

He added: "Things are changing in my life right now, for the better. [Lauren] is a very special girl."

Cowell – who famously declared in 2009 that he didn’t ever want to have children – had been named as a co-respondent in Silverman’s husband Andrew’s divorce papers, which cited adultery as the reason for filing.

He was not required to appear in court, however, after Lauren and Andrew – who raise a seven-year-old son together, reached an "amicable" settlement out of court.

A statement from Lauren’s lawyers said: "The matter has been resolved and the parties have moved on."
