Carey, Minaj quit ‘Idol’
Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have quit American Idol.
Carey announced yesterday that she will leave the show after just one season in order to undertake a world tour following the success of her latest single #Beautiful.
Mariah retweeted a message from her PR representatives which read: “W/ global success of #Beautiful (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol".
The 43-year-old’s representative told People that the singer has a busy year ahead.
"The rest of this year is jam-packed with Mariah putting the finishing touches on her much anticipated forthcoming album, headlining the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and appearing in Lee Daniels’s The Butler, opening in August," the rep said.
Shortly after Carey’s announcement, Starships singer Minaj confirmed she was also quitting the show after one season.
Minaj posted on Twitter: "Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!! (sic)."
Randy Jackson has also quit, leaving Keith Urban as the only remaining judge on the television contest, which has seen declining ratings in recent years.
