Bynes moves into rehab

October 01, 2013

Amanda Bynes has checked into rehab after being discharged from hospital.

According to TMZ, the troubled actress has been residing at The Canyon – a treatment facility in Malibu – for the past three weeks after being temporarily discharged from the UCLA Medical Center, where she was receiving psychiatric treatment.

Her parents have released a statement confirming that she is in a "private facility", although they did not specifically mention The Canyon.

Their statement read: "Currently, upon recommendation by the skilled healthcare professionals at UCLA Medical Center, Amanda is receiving  treatment in a private facility outside of Los Angeles. Amanda is making great strides towards recovery.

"The entire Bynes family would like to ask that they be given some measure of privacy so they can focus on Amanda’s health and well-being. The Bynes family would also like to thank all of Amanda’s supporters and well-wishers for their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

Former Nickelodeon star Bynes was admitted to hospital after being arrested for starting a fire in a stranger’s driveway, following a string of increasingly bizarre behavior that included abusing fellow stars on Twitter, throwing a bong out of the window in her New York City apartment, and claiming to have been sexually assaulted by a police officer.

According to TMZ, Bynes is "still in a desperate state", and sources are concerned that she is not being given the psychiatric treatment that she needs.

The source reported: "She interacts with people very little and rarely leaves the area where she’s living. Amanda is not wearing her wig and is ‘paranoid’ the paparazzi will find her."

It has previously been reported that Bynes is struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, with a source saying: "There are no drug problems involved, it’s all mental. She has deep anger and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), which tripped a psychotic episode… She is very ill, but manageable.

"Amanda genuinely wants to get better and has wanted to get better for some time."

During a recent court appearance on behalf of Bynes for a driving under the influence charge, her lawyer revealed that the actress is likely to remain in psychiatric treatment until 2015.
