Berry’s baby name revealed

October 08, 2013

Halle Berry has named her son Maceo Robert Martinez.

According to TMZ, the Oscar-winning actress – who gave birth to her first child with husband Olivier Martinez on Saturday (5 October) – chose a Spanish name for their son to honour Martinez’s father Robert’s Spanish origin.

The website reports that the name – which means "Gift of God" – was popular from the 9th to 14th Century.

The name – which morphed from "Maceo" to "Matteo" and eventually "Matthew", according to the Daily Mail – is fitting, as Berry previously described her pregnancy at 46 as a "miracle".

She previously said: "[Her five-year-old daughter Nahla’s] really happy. Not long ago she asked God for a little sister, but I tried not to get her hopes up. At 46, I didn’t know if I’d be able to get pregnant again.

"Olivier and I have always wanted to be parents. But I didn’t want to get my hopes up … God made the dream come true.

"This pregnancy is like a miracle for me, an amazing gift, because this child was as wished for as it was expected. It’s like a renewal of life … Good things happen too."
