‘Avatar’ star arrested at bar

November 06, 2012

Sam Worthington was arrested after getting into a fight at a bar, and later had charges against him dropped amid speculation that he was "method acting".

The Avatar star was detained by police on Saturday (3 November) for getting into a violent argument outside the Vortex bar in Georgia after he was refused entry for being intoxicated and failing to produce any ID.

According to the official report, an eyewitness told police officers that the 36-year-old actor, who is currently in Atlanta filming his new movie Ten alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, became disorderly and allegedly pushed the club’s doorman twice before he was pepper sprayed and restrained by security staff at the bar.

The incident is said to have been captured in full by the bar’s security cameras and Worthington was put in handcuffs until police arrived at the scene and arrested him.

While Worthington was initially charged with disorderly conduct, charges against the actor were dropped yesterday (5 November) after the bouncer failed to appear in court.

Bouncer Jerry Link claims he had no idea Worthington was an actor, and had received no notification to appear in court.

He told gossip website TMZ.com that he presumed the Australian actor was a homeless man because he arrived at the bar and grill wearing a dirty sweatshirt and carrying a pile of clothes.

Link also claimed that upon being pepper sprayed Worthington – who is currently in the city filming his new movie Ten alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in which he is playing a DEA agent – began screaming: "I’m a DEA agent. You f**ked up now."
