Top acts set for MTN Bushfire Fest
MTN Bushfire, Swaziland’s international festival of the arts has added some well renowned names to its list of performers this year. The festival, which takes place from 30 May to 1 June announced that award winning SA group, Bongo Muffin, will reunite for the first time in years.
This year, multi-Grammy award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo will headline the festival, alongside Uhuru, Derek Gripper, Dan Patlansky and Muzart, who will be representing South African talent aswell.
Ladysmith Black Mambazo, whose authentic isicathameya choral style has been exported and popularised all over the world, recently won the Grammy Award for best world music album for their 2013 live album Singing for Peace Around the World – sharing it with flamenco fusionists the Gipsy Kings. They boast a sterling record of awards including four Grammys, four SAMA Awards, 14 Grammy nominations, and a nomination each for an Emmy and an Academy Award.
Already well established as a top Pan-African festival, and named by MTV as one of the Top nine music festivals to attend in the world, MTN Bushfire 2014 has confirmed artists from eight different countries including diverse acts such as the much-loved and ’70s inspired Bogota based Colombian Salsa artists, La 33, Mokoomba from Zimbabwe, Under Kontrol all the way from France, Slovenian legends Red Five Point Star and Imperial Tiger Orchestra all the way from Switzerland.
Growing rapidly every year, last year saw over 20 000 guests visit to the scenic Malkerns Valley for the sold out festival.
