2026 Emmy Nods: Historic Snubs and Comedy Battles
The 78th Primetime Emmy nominations have been announced, bringing a mixture of record-breaking triumphs and historic snubs.
HBO Max medical drama “The Pitt” dominated the field with 25 nominations, whilst the final season of “Hacks” made comedy history by securing 24 nods. Newcomer “Widow’s Bay” followed closely with an impressive 19 nominations.
British star Matthew Rhys achieved a unique milestone, becoming the sole individual nominated for two distinct lead acting awards for his roles in “Widow’s Bay” and “The Beast In Me”. Concurrently, his wife, Keri Russell, was recognised for “The Diplomat”.
Numerous shock exclusions characterised this year’s shortlist. Industry and the final season of “Euphoria” were passed over for best drama series. Furthermore, despite previously winning consecutive awards, “The Bear” star Jeremy Allen White was completely left out of the acting races.
A fierce competition is expected for lead comedy actress between Jean Smart (“Hacks”) and Lisa Kudrow (“The Comeback”). Mariska Hargitay will host the star-studded ceremony live from Los Angeles on 14 September.
