SA xenophobia film wins more awards
Cape Town – South African movie Man on Ground has won the Best Ensemble Cast at the Monaco Charity Film Festival, reports
The cast includes Fabian Adeoye, Hakeem Kae-Kazim and Fana Mokoena.
The movie, which previously picked up awards at the Berlin Film Festival and the Jozi Film Festival, was written and directed by Akin Amotoso, an actor who has appeared in Blood Diamond and TV drama Generations.
According to the movie was inspired by the real life xenophobic attacks that took place in the East Rand in 2008.
Man on Ground tells the story of Femi (Adeoye), a young Nigerian refugee living in Johannesburg who disappears after xenophobic attacks are carried out against other African foreign nationals by the locals.
His brother, Ade (Kae-Kazim) a successful banker in London, returns to South Africa to search for Femi, reconstructing the pieces of his everyday life and the cruel hardships he endured just to survive.

The movie, which previously picked up awards at the Berlin Film Festival and the Jozi Film Festival, was directed by critically-acclaimed Akin Amotoso.
According to the the movie was inspired by the real life xenophobic attacks that took place in the East Rand in 2008.
“Omotoso casts the story of a young Nigerian man living in the African refugee tenements of Johannesburg who disappears against the background of animosity against immigrants flaring into violent rioting.
“In the span of a single night, his brother, on a short visit from London, tries to elucidate the mystery,” explained the newspaper.
The director stated that the movie was “a strong appeal for healing.”
