Rihanna goes boom in Battleship trailer
Cape Town – The battle for earth begins at sea.
A new trailer for action flick Battleship has been released, featuring Rihanna in her big screen debut as a navy weapons expert.
The movie is inspired by the classic naval combat boardgame by Hasbro, andstars Taylor Kitsch (starring in John Carter, currently on circuit) as Lt Alex Hopper, a Naval officer assigned to the USS John Paul Jones.
Carnage ensues when the screw of the ship discover an armoured creature whose alien ship emerges from the sea and fires seemingly indestructable missiles into the air, destroying major cities such as Hong Kong.
Hasbro toys also inspired the Transformers movies, and based on the trailer, Battleship seems to be in the same vein.
Directed by Peter Berg (Hancock, The Kingdom), Battleship also stars Brooklyn Decker as Sam Shane, a physical therapist and Hopper’s fiancée; Alexander Skarsgård as Hopper’s older brother Stone, Commanding Officer of the USS Sampson; Rihanna as Petty Officer Raikes and Liam Neeson as Admiral Shane.
Universal International Pictures will release Battleship in South Africa on May 4, 2012.
