Miranda Priestly’s Return Topples Box Office Records
The fashion world has modernised, but its queen remains unchanged. The “Devil Wears Prada 2” has dominated the box office, earning $32.5 million on its first day and reclaiming the top spot from the Michael Jackson biopic.
The sequel finds Andy Sachs returning to Runway under Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep. The cast reunited on the condition that the story addressed the current climate of digital dominance and AI.
Anne Hathaway, who portrays Andy, noted: “Stories about women who love what they do – who work at it and who prioritise it – are few and far between in Hollywood.”
While the industry now grapples with smaller budgets and social media, the film maintains its signature wit. Emily Blunt returns as a high-powered executive at Dior, providing a sharp contrast to the struggling magazine world. Critics have lauded the film as buoyant entertainment that avoids being a “garish embarrassment.”
Streep hopes the film challenges social double standards, stating: “For young women who pursue a career, it’s always been [the case that] ambition is seen as an unattractive quality in women. We would hope that feeling would be obsolete but it isn’t, it’s alive and kicking.”
