Kate, Will show off baby George

August 20, 2013

Prince William and Duchess Catherine have shared their first official family photographs with the month-old Prince George!

The photographs – taken by Catherine’s father, Michael Middleton, during the young royal family’s stay at the Middletons’ Buckleberry estate – show the relaxed new parents and their infant son posing in the sunlight, and are joined in one photograph by their black cocker spaniel Lupo.

It was revealed recently that William and Catherine would eschew the royal tradition of a "formal" official portrait, and would choose instead to share photographs of their newborn son from their private collection.

Meanwhile, William has given his first interview since the birth of his son last month.

He told CNN that the young Prince George was a "little bit of a rascal" and added: "He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I’m not sure, but he’s doing very well at the moment."

He also added that George did not "want to go to sleep that much, which is a little bit of a problem".

Although he admitted that it was usually Catherine that got up during the night to attend to their baby, adding that she was doing a "fantastic job".

The 31-year-old heir to the throne also revealed his relief that the young prince wasn’t "screaming his head off" when he was presented to the media at St Mary’s Hospital after his birth.

Asked about George’s presentation, William said that he and Catherine were "happy to show him off to whoever wanted to see him".

"I think I was on such a high anyway," he said.

"As any new parent knows, you’re only too happy to show off your new child and proclaim that he is the best-looking or the best everything.

"It’s nice that people want to see George, so I’m just glad he wasn’t screaming his head off the whole way through."

He also admitted that he had practised securing George’s car seat into the vehicle before attempting the real thing in front of the world’s media.

"I know there’s been speculation about that. I had to practise, I really did. I was terrified that I was going to do some… you know, it was going to fall off or it wasn’t going to close properly," he said.

"So, I had actually practised with that seat, but only once before."

In addition, William said that his decision to drive Catherine and George from the hospital himself was "really important".

"Where I can be, I am as independent as I want to be. And same as Catherine and Harry," he said.

"We’ve all grown up differently to other generations. And I very much feel if I can do it myself, I want to do it myself. And there are times where you can’t do it yourself and the system takes over or it’s appropriate to do things differently."
