Dolly’s Defiant Return: Country Icon Opens Travel Stop

June 25, 2026

Dolly Parton made a surprise appearance on Wednesday, 24 June, to launch her new Tennessee venture, “Dolly’s Tennessean Travel Stop”, following recent health struggles.

The 80-year-old music icon has faced significant challenges over the past year, including recurring kidney stones. Her illness, alongside the loss of her husband Carl Thomas Dean, led her to cancel a six-date Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace last month.

Parton explained that while she is recovering well, her medication leaves her “swimmy-headed” and unable to perform on stage safely. Furthermore, despite reports regarding her absence from an 80th birthday celebration in January, a representative clarified that she “never had plans to attend”.

Nevertheless, the singer remains busy with studio recordings, a Broadway musical, and her new Cornersville truck stop, which offers fuel, food, and showers. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Parton poked fun at rival chain Buc-ee’s. “Well, I couldn’t leave it to beavers. I had to throw my spurs in there myself,” Parton joked.

Though stepping back from major concerts, the legendary star reassured fans that her health issues are fully treatable as she focuses on her expanding business empire.
