Chris Brown enters rehab

Chris Brown has entered rehab to seek treatment for anger issues.

The 24-year-old singer – who along with his bodyguard was arrested on Sunday (27 October) for allegedly punching a man outside a Washington hotel and breaking his nose – has voluntarily entered an unspecified rehabilitation facility, his representative has confirmed.

Brown’s spokesperson said in a statement: "Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behaviour, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."

Brown was dropped off at the facility by his attorney, Mark Geragos, who confirmed that Brown was seeking treatment for anger issues and "just decided he wanted to take some time off and do some introspection", E! News reports.

Brown’s decision to seek treatment comes a day after he appeared in court for allegedly assaulting a man and making a homophobic slur outside a Washington hotel.

Sources claim that Brown punched the unidentified victim after he and a male friend tried to insert themselves into a picture that Brown was taking with two women. However, the star’s legal team insists he is not guilty.

Brown was charged with misdemeanour assault, and could face a four-year prison sentence if his current probation is revoked.

Brown is still on probation for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna in February 2009. He was sentenced to four years’ probation and 1400 hours of community service over the incident, and was also ordered to attend domestic violence courses.

Brown’s probation was briefly revoked earlier this year after a hit-and-run incident – although those charges were later dropped. In addition, he was sentenced to an additional 1000 hours of community service after a judge questioned whether he had legally completed his original community service sentence.

Meanwhile, a source close to Brown told E! News that the singer is a "good kid" at heart – but was definitely need of therapy to combat his demons.

"He needs help. He keeps self-medicating with weed and alcohol and that’s when he always gets in trouble," the insider said.
