Bynes kept in pysch hospital
Amanda Bynes’ bid to be released from her two-week involuntary psychiatric hold has been denied.
The 27-year-old actress was placed under the 5150 hold last month after being arrested for starting a small fire in an elderly woman’s driveway, and her family successfully petitioned to have the usual 72-hours extended to two weeks over concerns that she was displaying signs of schizophrenia.
A judge has now denied Bynes’ motion to be released, and ruled that she must remain at her Los Angeles facility until 9 August.
The judge’s decision was based on the fact that Bynes is not stable on her medication, and must remain under medical supervision.
It has previously been revealed that Bynes’ parents believe that she is a danger to herself, and are hoping to secure a conservatorship that would give them legal control over the actress until she gets her life back in order.
Bynes was arrested and admitted to hospital after using a canister of gasoline to light a fire in front of a woman’s home in Thousand Oaks, California.
Bynes accidentally soaked her Pomeranian puppy in gasoline, and a surveillance video showed her rushing into a nearby liquor store to wash the pet.
The dog is now in the care of her parents.
