Brown cleared of crash charge

August 16, 2013

Chris Brown has been cleared in a hit-and-run case after the 24-year-old rapper and the other driver struck a deal.

Brown had admitted to rear-ending a Mercedes with his Range Rover on 21 May, but denied leaving the scene and said that he had exchanged all the necessary details with the other driver.

However, prosecutors insisted that Brown – who is still on probation for his 2009 assault on then-girlfriend Rihanna – showed "aggression" after the accident.

Brown’s lawyer Mark Geragos, said that the deal struck with the other driver did not involve any money, and welcomed Thursday’s development, saying: "Sometimes I get the impression that (Brown is) prosecuted for who he is, not for what he’s done."

However, Brown’s legal woes are not over yet. After his assault of Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammys, Brown was sentenced to five years’ probation, a year-long domestic violence programme and 180 days of community service.

After he was charged in the hit-and-run, prosecutors were granted a request in Los Angeles to have Brown’s probation to be revoked.

He is due in court for a hearing later today, and could face up to four years behind bars if the judge decides he violated his probation.
