A Deadly Power Dynamic: Perry’s PA Jailed
Kenneth Iwamasa, 61, has been jailed for 41 months, concluding the federal investigation into the 2023 ketamine overdose of “Friends” star Matthew Perry.
Despite lacking medical training, Perry’s live-in assistant of two years conspired with doctors and street dealers to procure over $50 000 of the narcotic. Iwamasa admitted to administering six to eight injections daily during Perry’s final days.
Crucially, he had already found the actor unresponsive twice that month. More than two weeks before the tragedy, Dr Salvador Plasencia witnessed an adverse reaction that left Perry mute and immobile, yet the supply continued. On 28 October, after Perry allegedly requested, “Shoot me up with a big one,” Iwamasa delivered a final massive dose and left him alone in a Jacuzzi.
Some Hollywood insiders noted a stark power imbalance, with lawyers claiming Iwamasa was “incapable” of refusing his employer. However, Perry’s family rejected this. His mother, Suzanne Morrison, stated, “Kenny knew, should he feel unduly pressured, that with one phone call to any number of the people in Matthew’s orbit, reinforcements would be on the way.”
Iwamasa, who hid evidence and lied to police, also received two years of supervised release.
