5FM voted coolest radio station in SA

Cape Town – Youth radio station 5FM has been voted “coolest radio station” in the 2012 Sunday Times Generation Next Brand Survey Awards.

The survey, conducted HDI Youth Marketers on behalf of the Sunday Times, rated 5FM ahead of other stations like MetroFM, YFM, Highveld Stereo and Ukhozi FM.

Station manager Aisha Mohamed, was thrilled with the latest accolade and said so far it had been a successful year for the station.

“This has been the most amazing year for 5FM. Our station has seen some of the highest listenership figures to date and to receive so much recognition both internationally and at home has left us feeling humbled and excited,” she said.

Favourite local soapie

The 5 500 South Africans, aged between 8 and 22, who took part in the survey also said Generations was their favourite local soapie.

The SABC 1 soapie came first in the “Coolest TV Soap” category. It was followed by Rhythm City, 7de Laan, Isidingo and Muvhango.

Comedian Trevor Noah was the most favoured local celebrity when he won the “Coolest Local Celebrity” category ahead of Zahara, DJ Cleo, Big Nuz and AKA.
