Historic Euro Title Win For West Ham

June 08, 2023

West Ham United could not have asked for a more perfect evening on Wednesday, 7 June, as they beat ACF Fiorentina 2-1 in the UEFA Europa Conference League final, ending a nearly six-decades-long major trophy drought.

The first goal at Fortuna Arena in Prague, Czechia was scored by the Hammers’ Saïd Benrahma with a penalty at the 62nd-minute mark. However, the lead was short-lived as Fiorentina’s Giacomo Bonaventura struck just five minutes later to even the score.

Jarrod Bowen sealed the night for the Irons when he found the back of the net at the 90th minute, handing the London club their first European silverware since 1965 and a huge historic win.

Hammers captain, Declan Rice, relished the victory as his final game with David Moyes’ men, as his future lies in mainland European football, but the 24-year-old skipper claims “it’s not goodbye yet” as he still has two years left on his contract.

Unfortunately, the night was marred by clashes between fans before the game started, as West Ham fans were attacked at a bar and riot police called in. During the game itself, Italian captain, Cristiano Biraghi, was bloodied by a vape thrown by Hammers supporters, putting a damper on the festivities.
