Crystal Palace Eye Loan Deal with Axel Disasi
Crystal Palace are nearing a loan deal for Chelsea outcast Axel Disasi which will see him spending time at Selhurst Park.
The 28-year-old French defender spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United after being exiled to Stamford Bridge’s “bomb squad” and seeing his No. 2 shirt handed to new arrival Marco Palestra.
Palace moved quickly to secure the center-back as a stopgap option following Maxence Lacroix’s £52-million transfer to Chelsea. New manager Pierre Sage had publicly stressed the team’s urgent need for an experienced English Premier League (EPL) leader to reinforce the backline ahead of their campaign opener against Everton.
“He’s a player from Chelsea; it’s difficult for me to speak about a player of another club, but I hear the same noise as you,” Sage said coyly in a recent interview.
While some fans have expressed concern over Disasi’s lack of recovery pace in Sage’s high defensive line, the Frenchman offers physical box defending and top-flight experience. Crucially, taking Disasi on loan allows Palace time and financial flexibility to address other key squad areas, such as midfield depth, while continuing their search for long-term targets like Brest’s Raphael Le Guen.
