Forest Agree Club-Record £50m Liam Delap Deal

Nottingham Forest have negotiated a landmark £50-million transfer package – comprising £45m upfront and £5m in bonuses – to purchase forward Liam Delap from Chelsea.

This arrangement eclipses the £37.5 million expenditure spent on Omari Hutchinson a year prior, setting a new record for the City Ground outfit.

The 23-year-old front man endured an unproductive stint in West London following a £30 million relocation from Ipswich Town, finding the net just twice over 41 appearances across a campaign plagued by shoulder and hamstring issues. With Stamford Bridge manager Xabi Alonso prioritizing other attacking options, Chelsea stood to collect a £20 million profit.

Forest boss Oliver Glasner identified the target to bolster his frontline following Taiwo Awoniyi’s £9 million exit. Pundit Tim Sherwood endorsed the decision: “We know Liam’s got the ability; he’s shown that in the past. He needs to play on a regular basis now. He needs to stay fit.”

The player is scheduled to undergo a medical on today, Wednesday 26 August, ahead of signing a long-term contract.
