Guardiola Rebuts “Stupid” Criticism of City Celebrations
Pep Guardiola has fiercely defended his squad after pundits Wayne Rooney and Danny Murphy branded Manchester City’s celebrations “excessive” and “premature” following their 2-1 victory over Arsenal.
After the high-stakes win at the Etihad, Gianluigi Donnarumma entered the stands while Erling Haaland joined a lap of honour. Rooney suggested the reaction “might come back to bite them”, but Guardiola dismissed such scrutiny.
“People can say whatever stupid things they want to say,” the manager remarked, insisting his players were merely acknowledging the difficulty of the match.
Guardiola highlighted that because Arsenal are such “top” contenders, the fixture served as a final where a loss would have ended City’s English Premier League (EPL) title hopes. He encouraged his team to embrace the victory alongside their supporters rather than waiting for the season’s conclusion.
“What sense is not to live it?” he asked.
The win leaves City trailing the EPL leaders by three points with a game in hand. However, the pursuit of the summit may be hampered by a groin injury to Rodri, who is expected to miss the upcoming trip to Burnley.
