‘Game of Thrones’ renewed
HBO has renewed Game of Thrones for a fourth season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, season four – which is expected to cover the second half of George RR Martin’s third Song of Ice and Fire novel A Storm of Swords – will consist of 10 episodes.
The announcement comes off the back of its record-breaking third season premiere, which drew in 4.4-million viewers – Game of Thrones’ biggest audience ever, and up four percent on the finale of season two.
The season premiere also broke another record – earning the title of the most pirated TV episode ever, with over one million illegal downloads in 24 hours.
"I probably shouldn’t be saying this, but [the piracy] is a compliment of sorts," HBO programming president Michael Lombardo told Entertainment Weekly
"The demand is there. And it certainly didn’t negatively impact the DVD sales. [Piracy is] something that comes along with having a wildly successful show on a subscription network."
