SA mogul funds Russell Simmons charity

Cape Town – Patrice Motsepe donated R1.2m to hip hop mogul Russell Simmons’ in New York on Saturday, reports .

The local billionaire was among a number of celebrities who donated a total of R16m to the foundation to help poor children in the United States learn artistic skills.

The African Rainbow Mineral’s chairmen was voted the richest South African in 2011 and came in at no 336 on the Forbes world’s richest people list in the same year.

He was joined by movie producer Tyler Perry (who donated R800 000), Mariah Carey and her husband Nick Cannon as well as a litany of other celebrities in raising the funds.

The foundation was formed 17 years ago by the Simmons brothers Russell, Danny and Joseph with the intention of improving arts and culture in the US.

According to Destiny Man, Russell Simmons will also be the main speaker at the second edition of the magazine’s seminar series, Destiny Forum  on 21 September.

The Def Jam Records co-founder is expected to give a talk based on success and self-mastery.
