Rival ‘Jungle Book’ film gets release

August 05, 2014

Besides the upcoming Disney live-action version of The Jungle Book which is set for release next year, there’s also rival film version of the property that’s been in the works at Warner Bros.

According to Box Office Mojo, the rival Jungle Book film now has a release date and a title.

The film will be called Jungle Book: Origins and has a release date of October 21, 2016 which is year after the Disney version is released (October, 09, 2015).

The rival Jungle Book film has been in the works at Warner Bros. for while now and has even found a director in the form of Andy Serkis (Sméagol in The Lord of the Rings films).

According to /Film, the film is to be faithful to its source material, which means that it will be a much darker version than the family-friendly one from Disney.

Here’s what Serkis had to say regarding the film: "What I love about the screen adaptation by Steve and Callie Kloves is it’s very truthful to the original book; it doesn’t shy away from its darkness. The jungle is a Garden of Eden and a wonderful place for Mowgli to grow up in, but also is a place of fear and a place of threat."

/Film reported that the film will also be released in 3D (obviously).
