Zimbabwe Lose 1 – 0 To Zambia
Yesterday saw the start of Zimbabwe’s national football team’s campaign at the 2016 Chan tournament in Rwanda, and unfortunately, the Warriors are not off to a great start after they lost their opening match.
The Warriors played against neighbours Zambia in their opening game of the Group D pool matches. And while the Warriors dod put up an impressive performance, they were edged out 1 – 0 to Zambia.
Veteran Zambian player that helped them secure the Chan cup in 2012, Chansa, was the one who won the game for Zambia. Chansa broke the 0 – 0 score just before the hour, after successfully converting Chris Katongo’s free-kick to the back post.
Zimbabwe tried their hardest to equalise the score once more, but were unable to do so before the final whistle blew.
This is the first loss for the Warriors in three matches – they have successfully won their previous three games.
Zimbabwe still has to face off against Mali and Uganda in their group D pool games before they could hopefully progress in the competition.
Coach Kalisto Pasuwa has previously said that they are determined to make a name for themselves at this year’s tournament and that he truly believes the Warriors have what it takes to have a successful tournament.
Here’s hoping that the Warriors can pull it together in their next game.
