Zim Gets $1.1 Million From France

October 14, 2015

It was announced on Tuesday that Zimbabwe would receive a grant from France to the tune of $1.1 million to help further research in science.

The money will be used in tertiary educations for research purposes, more specifically those in a scientific field. The tertiary institutions that will benefit directly from the grant from the French government is the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) and the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).

The million dollar grant was unveiled at the renewal and signing of a three year partnership between the Research Platform Production and Conservation in Partnership (RP-PCP) and CIRAD Agricultural Research for Development – a French research company mostly operating in developing countries and markets, such as Zimbabwe.

Michael Eddi, Director at CIRAD, said that they have long since been involved in providing aid for research in developing countries like Zim:

“…[sic] We have been welcome in Zimbabwe for a long time and we want to remain in the country and work with these institutions and we want to consolidate and enhance cooperation at regional level starting from here going to Zambia, Botswana on the same thematic which all other people are on in the region,” he said.
