ZANU PF Wants Airport Named After Mugabe
The ZANU PF Harare provincial leadership has announced that after meeting together on Sunday, they have proposed that the Harare International Airport be renamed after President Robert Mugabe.
These and other resolutions will be presented at a ZANU PF conference in Victoria Falls this week.
Harare province’s political commissar, Shadreck Mashayamombe, said that the decision to rename Harare International Airport comes after the Bulawayo airport was renamed after an important political figure.
The Bulawayo airport was named after the late vice president, Joshua Nkomo.
“…[sic] We resolved that Harare International Airport be named after President Robert Mugabe,” he said.
He also likened the decision to South African airports that have been named after political figures in the country:
“…Like in South Africa, they have OR Tambo International Airport named after former president of the African National Congress, the late Oliver Tambo…The airport was originally known as Jan Smuts International Airport after that country’s former leader” he concluded.
