Zambia Busts Wildlife Smuggling Ring
Zambian authorities have managed to bring down an alleged wildlife smuggling ring that has seen the African countries enthralled in illegal wildlife trade.
Zambian officials announced on Wednesday that they had arrested six South African nationals on suspicions of dealing in the illegal wildlife trade and smuggling wildlife as part of an illegal trade ring.
They also said that they found twelve Sable Antelope calves packed in a trailer. These antelope are very rare and very much considered a prized possession.
According to the Zambians, one Zimbabwean national was also arrested along with the six South Africans. The men were intercepted and arrested in the Gwembe district after they were found carrying weapons and veterinary products.
South African and Zambian authorities had been tracking the ring since October 5th.
“…[sic] Our authorities flagged them and alerted the game reserves and law enforcement authorities…We followed them to a ranch, where 40 sable antelope were being kept” the authorities said.
