Zahara Jolie-Pitt’s Biological Mother Wants In

January 18, 2017

Almost 12 years after Zahara Jolie-Pitt’s adoption, Ethiopian birth mother, Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, has shared her intentions to reconnect with her biological daughter.

In an exclusive interview with Daily Mail, Lebiso, now 31-years-old, is hoping to become a part of her daughter’s life. Zahara was adopted by Angelina Jolie in Ethiopia in 2005, at the tender age of 6-months-old. Angelina was allegedly told that Zahara was an AIDS orphan, however, Lebiso has said that this was not the case.

According to Lebiso, she fell pregnant with Zahara after being violently attacked and raped. After giving birth to her daughter she fell extremely ill and, without support, was unable to care for her child.

In her interview, Lebiso acknowledged that Angelina has given Zahara a better life than Lebiso could ever have dreamed of. She does not want to take her daughter away, but simply wants to be a part of her life, to let her daughter know that she is alive and to talk to her every now and then.

The Ethiopian mother spoke of her great love of her daughter – how she misses her everyday, knows when her birthday is, and thinks of her all the time. She is extremely proud of the beautiful young woman that her daughter is becoming and is only grateful to Angelina for the love and life that she has given Zahara.

Lebiso concluded her interview by imploring to Angelina: “We all die sometime and before I die I would like her to know about me and that she has family here in Ethiopia. I would ask Angelina to let me speak with her. I do not think it is too much to ask”.
