Zaha at Risk of Extended Ban

February 01, 2019

Crystal Palace forward, Wilfried Zaha, might receive an extended ban for the behaviour he displayed during the club’s clash with Southampton on Wednesday, 30 January.

The 26-year-old-player was charged by the Football Association (FA) for improper conduct after being sent off the pitch in the 87th minute for appearing to sarcastically applaud referee Andre Marriner.

Moments before, Marriner had cautioned Zaha for tangling with the Saints’ James Ward-Prouse, earning the forward two yellow cards in quick succession.

Crystal Palace went on to draw 1-1 with Southampton.

While the dismissal would earned Zaha a one-match ban, reports say that the FA could extend the ban further after he continued to clap at Marriner as he left the pitch.

Zaha – who apologised for his actions via Twitter to his team-mates and fans – has until the evening of 5 February 2019 to respond to the charge.
