Yaya Toure Signs New Man City Contract
Man City star, Yaya Toure, has signed an extension on his contract with English Premier League club, Manchester City.
The contract extension is thanks to Toure’s stellar performance in the later half of the 2016/2017 season, after he had fallen out of favour with Man City manager, Pep Guardiola.
Toure has been with Manchester City for seven years, after joining the club from Spanish club, Barcelona, in 2010. He has enjoyed great success with the club, winning the Premier League twice and scoring 24 goals in the club’s winning 2013/2014 season.
“I’m delighted…I told myself the journey at City is not done and when I received a call from Txiki Begiristain [football director at the club] and talked to the manager I was very delighted…I am very lucky now to be part of a great club with great players around me who are helping me to achieve my targets [sic],” Toure said.
Many critics have said that Toure’s time as one of the football greats is coming to an end, considering his age (34), but football director, Txiki Begiristain, said that Toure remains a central part of the squad.
“Yaya has been a fantastic servant for Manchester City and continues to be a vital member of Pep Guardiola’s squad…He is one of our most experienced and popular players and we couldn’t be happier that he is staying with us as we embark on what we all hope will be a very exciting season…Yaya has been central to the successes we’ve had over the past seven years and he has a vital part to play next season,” he told the website.
