Wrexham Moving Toward Top Flight Status

May 08, 2025

Wrexham’s meteoric rise from the National League to the Championship in just three seasons has football fans dreaming of the English Premier League (EPL), and ex-goalkeeper Ben Foster believes it is possible.

On Monday, 5 May, during an episode of his podcast, “Fozcast”, Foster predicted that the Welsh club could reach the EPL within five years and urged the club to consolidate and strengthen wisely.

Former Wrexham captain Ben Tozer echoed this, calling for experienced, quality signings to remain competitive, while acknowledging some players may need to be released in the process.

Co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are expected to invest heavily again this summer as they prepare for a tough Championship season and new chapters of their docuseries, “Welcome to Wrexham”.

However, Welsh comedian Elis James warns that not all marquee moves are wise.

He labelled the idea of signing Cristiano Ronaldo as “utterly insane”, citing the 40-year-old’s £3 million-a-week wages as a financial non-starter. James praised the Hollywood duo for their grounded, respectful approach and joined the calls for sensible spending over star-chasing.

As the Red Dragons prepare for life back in the second tier after four decades, major changes lie ahead.
