Will Ronaldo Still Accomplish Juventus’ UCL Title Mission?
Juventus paid €112m to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, aiming to push for the Champions League (UCL) title, however, their chances took a hit on Wednesday, after Atletico Madrid secured a 2-0 victory from the first leg of the last 16.
The Italian giants won the last seven Serie A titles but have not yet tasted the UCL title since the 1995-96 season, hence they signed the tournament’s most prolific ever player: Ronaldo.
The five-time Champions League title holder is currently faced with a challenge to replicate his success with his new team after failing to terrorize his former city rivals.
An unforeseen 2-0 loss to Atleti has placed Juventus in a very difficult position to progress to the next stage of the competition.
However, if there is a player in history capable of performing such a miracle, it is Ronaldo. Last year CR7 scored a 98th-minute penalty for Real Madrid and knocked Juventus off the UCL quarter-finals.
The March 12th return leg in Turin, will determine whether Ronaldo adds another glorious chapter to his career, or gets eliminated from the UCL after many years.
