White House To Transfer Ebola Funds To Help Fight Zika Virus

April 07, 2016

The presidency of the United States, referred to as the White House, has announced that they plan on transferring funds intended to aid the fight against the Ebola virus to another fund that is intended to help fight the Zika virus,

The US government has said that they would move the leftover money from the largely successful fight against Ebola to combat the growing threat of the Zika virus that has been spreading throughout South America.

The Zika virus had its first outbreak in Brazil, but has also been spreading to the rest of the world.

Scientists and researchers believe that the Zika causes microcephaly, a devastating birth defect in which a baby’s head is too small and the child also suffers from developmental problems.

Pregnant women who contract the virus are at risk of giving microcephaly to their babies.

It is believed that the US government would give about $600 million to the Zika virus, even though the Obama administration had asked for $1.9 billion in funding.

The request has apparently been stalled in Congress.

The $600 million or so would be devoted to the federal Centres for Disease Control, which is focused on research and development of anti-Zika vaccine.

The Zika virus has been spreading rapidly over the past few months and has caused panic across the world.

It has also affected the amount of people attending the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro later this year, as people are afraid of the virus.
