West Ham’s Yarmolenko Sidelined for Six Months

West Ham winger, Andriy Yarmolenko, is expected to be ruled out for six months following surgery on his Achilles tendon on Monday.

The 28-year-old Ukranian – who has scored two goals in 10 Premier League appearances for the Hammers – sustained the injury during the club’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 21 October.

He was stretchered off the pitch in the 40th minute after appearing to get his studs caught in the turf. West Ham went on to lose 1-0 to the Spurs.

In a written statement, Richard Collinge, the club’s head of medical, said: “[Yarmolenko’s] operation went well and we will now work hard to support him throughout the rehabilitation process.”

Collinge added: “His recovery will be planned very carefully and we have every confidence that he will return to full fitness within the scheduled time-frame.”

West Ham coach, Manuel Pellegrini, said it would be a big blow to lose Yarmolenko, given that his fellow midfielders Jack Wilshere, Carlos Sanchez and Manuel Lanzi have also been sidelined with injuries.
