Wenger Not Happy With Director of Football Possibility
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has bluntly stated that he is not interested in working alongside a proposed ‘director of football’ next season, and has maintained that he will need to have full control of the club.
Reports have recently been suggesting that the big wigs at Arsenal are looking at employing a ‘director of football’ next season that is intended to work alongside Wenger.
However, Wenger has made it clear that he would not be interested in working with such a person.
“I’m the manager of Arsenal Football Club and as long as I’m manager of Arsenal Football Club, I will decide what happens on the technical front, that’s it,” Wenger recently told reporters.
Wenger seemed to get even more agitated as reporters pushed for his stance on a possible director of football joining the management team, saying he does not even understand the position.
“I don’t know what director of football means. Is it somebody who stands in the road and directs play right and left? I don’t understand and I never did understand what it means,” he said.
Wengers future at Arsenal has also been uncertain as of late.
The 67-year-old’s contract with the club ends at the end of the current season, and many are speculating whether or not he will stay on as manager, and, more so, whether the club will offer him an extension on his contract.
When asked about whether or not he will reveal his decision to stay with the club anytime soon, Wenger simply replied “no”.
Arsenal face Southampton tonight.
