Watch Toya Delazy’s new music video
South African pop singer Toya Delazy has released her sophomore album and has been promoting her latest single Forbidden Fruit. The video sees the star in a colourful and tropical themed studio with same sex models kissing to drive home the idea of forbidden fruit.
And if you didn’t get the theme (which sort of looks like a Tropica ad), the star has also thrown in some bananas and oranges to really make sure everyone understands the concept.
Arcade Content’s Kyle Lewis directed Forbidden Fruit music video, which has been hailed across the Twittersphere as “masterful,” “a work of art” and “daring…in the context of anti-gay politics in Africa.”
The song is the first single off Delazy’s second album, Ascension, which was released last week by Sony Music Africa. In 2013, Delazy won South African Music Awards (SAMAs) for Newcomer of the Year and Best Pop Album, and was also nominated in the Best International Act: Africa category at the BET Awards.
Lewis won the SAMA for Best Music Video earlier this year for The Parlotones Sleepwalker music video, which featured Khuli Chana.
He’s repped by Arcade Content, a new division of Egg Films that produces content that falls outside the realm of traditional TV commercials, like brand films, web series, and music videos.
Her album, titled Ascension, is out on iTunes.
